A 5,340 acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir, impounding water on the Iowa River. Facilities include Lake Macbride State Park, seven Corps of Engineer campgrounds, two marinas and multiple boat ramps.
High water levels create strong crappie year classes. Crappie reach the 9-11 inch range 3 to 4 years after a strong year class is established. Channel catfish are extremely abundant, 15 fish limits are not uncommon.
Coralville's walleye have become a consistent fishery due to annual stockings. Five million walleye fry and 83,000 saugeye fingerlings are stocked into the lake each year. The best walleye fishing on Coralville is typically from Mehaffey Bridge area and upstream. The Tailwater area of the reservoir can be an excellent walleye spot.
Coralville water levels are regulated according to season. Spring flood control pool is 679 feet above sea level. The summer recreation pool is maintained two feet above the spring pool level. The fall pool level is raised seven feet above the spring level for waterfowl hunting.
