Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater lake in New Jersey.  It is located in the northern part of the state, on the border of Morris and Sussex Counties. Lake Hopatcong is an essential economic asset for its surrounding communities.  An estimated 500,000 visitors use Lake Hopatcong's recreational facilities each year.

Lake Hopatcong provides a setting for variety of recreational activities, such as  fishing, boating, swimming, sailing and jet skiing.  These activities, as well as general aesthetics, are jeopardized by declining water quality. Lake Hopatcong is a designated emergency source of drinking water for local municipalities. 9.5 Miles in Length; 40 Miles of Shoreline. Surface Area = 2,658 Acres

Lake Hopatcong is definitely one of the top 3 lakes for largemouth in NJ. Hopatcong is New Jersey's largest lake with over 2700 acres. The lake has a maximum depth of 58 feet and is approximately 8 miles long. The lake has some good size fish with largemouth averaging 2-3 pounds, some 4-5 pounders as well as a few near the 7 pound range. Favorite catches: bass, trout, catfish, perch, pickerel and sunfish.

Although one of the smallest and most densely populated states in the nation, New Jersey is able to offer many fishing opportunities. From striped bass and American shad fishing in the Delaware River to offshore sport fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, New Jersey anglers have some of the widest varieties of fishing opportunities available anywhere.

The N.J. Division of Fish and Wildlife stocks more than 200 waters with catchable-size fish, primarily brook, brown and rainbow trout. Warmwater anglers also have a field day in New Jersey. In recent years the Division has been stocking several introduced game and panfish species, including northern pike, tiger and "true" muskellunge, walleye, hybrid striped bass and channel catfish into the lakes and rivers of the state.

Lake Hopatcong offers camping, water sports, fine dining and much more. The Sunday Sailboat regattas are a sight to see. The many coves of Lake Hopatcong offer wonderful conditions for water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing or tubing. Speed boats and pleasure boats are always welcome. Many of the local marinas offer different types of boat rentals and even jet-ski rentals.
