Rochester, New YorkLake Ontario is the smallest and most easterly of the five Great Lakes of North America, lying on the border between Ontario, Canada, and New York in the United States. The body of water's area is about 7,335 square miles, and its maximum depth is 800 feet. The lake is linked to Lake Erie by the Niagara River and the Welland Ship Canal. It is linked to the Atlantic Ocean by the St. Lawrence River. Major Canadian cities, Toronto and Hamilton, and the U.S. city of Rochester, N.Y., lie on its shores. The U.S.-Canadian border passes through this geographic feature.
