The Salmon River Reservoir: The best kept secret in Northern Central NY. Hardwood forests surround the pristine body of water and the shoreline is made up of mostly state owned land. The shoreline is forever wild protected by NY State and Federal guidelines. Shoreline modifications are limited by licensing by the reservoir’s owner. Run-off and underground springs feed the clean fresh water reservoir. A depth finder we used has indicated depths up to 100 feet in areas allowing great deep water diving and exploring. The real secret is the Salmon River Falls. The falls are 5 minutes away from the house. This natural wonder is beautiful and has the makings of a Normal Rockwell picture!
The picturesque lake is haven for all sorts of outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, swimming, hiking, bird watching, boating, kayaking, Jet-Ski, para-sailing and gliding. Snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice-fishing and snow-shoeing. A NY State DEC boat launch is about one mile away. The Tug Hill is noted for extreme winter snowfalls and provides for great winter activities especially snowmobiling. You have easy access to 1000’s of miles of snowmobile and XC Skiing trials are close by. There are even dog sled trails and teams are often seen training their dogs for competition. This unique area next to the reservoir at 940-1200ft + elevation, receives an average 300 inches of annual snowfall. Groomed trails and seasonal roads attract sports enthusiasts from far away spots. License plates from Michigan, Wyoming and many other eastern and central states are normal during fall and winter. The Salmon River, Salmon run is a great spectacle. A real fun and interesting attraction in fall. The crystal clear water is a very peaceful setting. Unlike the Adirondack’s, No black flies! You can’t beat northern NY for fall colors they are magnificent.
Most guys like camp but some women are not easily convinced. This is an all season area; After a whole summer of family fun you’ll have Salmon fishing, hunting and snowmobiling with the guys. The Salmon Hatchery is just 8 miles away.
