PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT JUST LAKE FRONT PROPERTY IT IS A WHOLE ENTIRE 15 ACRE PRISTINE SPRING-FED LAKE WHICH IS TOTALLY SURROUNDED BY 112.63 ACRES OF HIGH WOODED HILLS AND CORRESPONDING WETLANDS WITH MANY SPRINGS!
THIS PROPERTY IS A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY THAT ENCOMPASSES MANY POSSIBILITIES.
This Littlefield Lake property is very special and rare. It is one of the few pristine undisturbed wetlands remaining. The property consists of Littlefield Lake which is a 15 acre, singularly owned, pristine, spring-fed lake that is in a valley surrounded by 112.63 wooded acres. The owner has sole access to the lake. This makes the property even rarer. The central part of this property, which the lake is in the middle of, is hidden from view by high wooded hills that overlook the lake and its encompassing pristine, undisturbed wetlands. These densely wooded hills are like islands that completely surround the lake and encompassing wetlands. There are many springs, creeks and ponds on the property. All the water on the property originates from springs within the property borders. The only exception is Crystal Creek which crosses the S.E. and N.W. corners of the property. THE PROPERTY IS EASILY ACCESSED AND YET IS TOTALLY SECLUDED.
The property is wooded with many magnificent tall oaks, some of which are probably 200 plus years old, and other trees such as birch, beech, tamarack and maple. Each area of the property: lake, springs, ponds, streams, marsh and wooded hills has their own unique character. Each day the water in the lake and main springs are a different hue of clear blue to sometimes amethyst. Littlefield Lake is a deep-water lake and has many springs coming up within it. There are many springs on the property. The main spring is N.E. of the lake and was boxed in 80 years ago. Some of the box still remains. Many years ago, before the electricity was connected, the spring water was piped up the hill to the main cottage by way of a water-ram. This spring is only a short walk from the main cottage hill and the area of the lake used for swimming and casting off. There is a large spring-fed pond to the east of this spring; the area of the large spring-fed pond is its own self regulated. It is a wild place that can no longer be traversed. The South Woods High Hill is across the lake from the main cottage hill. It is the highest point on the property. The lake is in view along the top of this hill which is framed by magnificent groves of old oak and birch that remain as they have always been. There is a small, self-contained, spring-fed pond on this hill. Crystal Creek crosses the property on the N.W. corner and on the Columbiaville Road corner. There are small creeks and streams within the property which all flow and connect with Crystal Creek in the N.W. corner of the property. Crystal Creek then flows into the Flint River. This property, being undisturbed wetlands, is a haven for birds of every kind, such as: great blue heron, ducks, wild geese, wild turkeys, flickers, woodpeckers, redwing blackbirds and many other varieties of wild birds. It is a bird watcher’s paradise. There are also many varieties of unpolluted fish in the lake.
PLEASE NOTE: there are more photographs on our Littlefield Lake website. There are also maps and PDF document that contains legal property description, maps, older photos and a story/letter about when Frank James purchased the property 85 years ago. On the website there is also a link entitled MORE PHOTOS. This link takes you to a photo album. The album is titled LITTLEFIELD LAKE FALL EQUINOX SUNRISE. This album is a special progressive series of photographs of the sunrise on the Fall Equinox. Viewed as a slide show, it evokes feelings and essences of the spirit of this special place. This pristine wetlands property is already that and just needs people who love pure water and nature. There are about 20 + crystal clear springs on the property. New photo albums will be posted to the Littlefield Lake website soon of different areas of the property. These new albums will be accessed by the same, MORE PHOTOS, link. The Website is being updated now with the focus directed more toward a Water Healing Sanctuary Retreat.
PROPERTY LOCATION
This property is in Deerfield Township, Lapeer County, Michigan. It is approximately seven miles north of Lapeer Michigan off M-24 (N. Lapeer Rd.) and Columbiaville Rd. and is about 75 miles north of the Detroit City suburbs. The property is now zoned agricultural/residential.
ECOLOGICAL HISTORY
Frank D. James purchased this property 85+ years ago. The property is presently owned by the James Family Trust. The James family has preserved the lake and the property surrounding it, in its own natural purity and beauty, all these years. Throughout the years only rowboats and canoes have been used on the lake; no motor boats and no chemicals or toxic substances have been used in the lake or on the land and foliage.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
On the East side of the lake is the cottage hill. There are two cottages on this hill overlooking the lake. They are nestled among some of the oldest oak trees on the property. This hill is very close to the lake, with a short path going down to it. Also, on the East side of the lake, there is a small island with a foot-bridge leading to it. This island is well maintained and in consideration of a Water Healing Retreat this island would be a perfect place for a bath house. This Healing Spring Water holds special qualities and could be heated for Therapeutic Bathing like is done at the famous Stewart Mineral Spring in Northern California. The grey water could easily be directed the appropriate distance away from the lake. The present household water source is a deep well that was dug on the cottage hill many years ago. The main spring, by the lake (old spring box), is also a drinking water source. Sitting by this spring is a wonderful lively experience: bubbles often rise up with the spring water, birds and dragonflies frequent this area, the stream coming from the lake and the N.E. big spring-fed pond are flowing by and there are at least two other springs across from this spring. There is often clay like minerals floating on top of the spring where the old spring box was. These minerals change in color day to day with blue always present. The water in this spring is always a clear bluish color. Beautiful, mineral rich, green therapeutic quality clay borders the entire area of this Main Spring and the edge of the lake. This same clay lines all the creek beds and springs on the property. The lake always offers a wonderful beyond swimming experience. While swimming the swimmer will go into very cold spots; these are springs. In the summer evenings the water becomes warm from the sun, clear and smooth like glass. The white water lilies are closed up and an atmosphere of calm settles in. Swimming and bathing at this time is both relaxing and rejuvenating. The lake is not for water sports but rather canoeing, row-boating, fishing, swimming, bathing, and iceskating. The property is perfect for a Water Healing Sanctuary/Retreat which would include many activities and therapies. Other activites: contemplation/meditation/inner reflection, hiking/walking/exploring the surrounding woods, wildcrafting, bocci and other games, sledding, ceremonies, gardening/beekeeping/goats and many more. The property has plenty of pure spring water, electric and natural gas. There are two driveways leading into the property from M-24. The main cottage is old and is not the focus of the property. Some of the structure can be preserved and thus grandfather a new building. A large home, two smaller cabins or a lodge could be built on the main cottage hill.
PROPERTY VALUE
IN LIGHT OF THE PRESENT ECOLOGICAL AND WATER CRISIS WE ARE ALL FACING, THIS PROPERTY'S NATURAL SPRING WATER ECOSYSTEM INCREASES ITS VALUE BEYOND OUR NORMAL PRECONCEPTIONS!
This property is a unique find amidst our busy, technologically developed, present day lifestyle. As the cities have grown with their corresponding rural development, and M-24 has become a commuter’s highway, this property surrounding Littlefield Lake has been fortuitously held in the same prime, original and natural condition. The lake, in the shell of this solitude, has gained increasing rarity as the pearl that it is. It has become a place where time seems to cease and peace becomes. Within the oasis of this property with its central lake there exist much potential for the expansion and development of the dream of beauty and peace.
