Fishing Information

Richland Chambers lake is an excellent choice for Texas anglers seeking catfishes, crappie, white bass or hybrid stripers. Angling for largemouth bass can be very good where anglers can find vegetation and clear water; however, these areas are somewhat limited in size compared to the 45,000-acre lake surface. Many anglers set jug lines for catfishes and go after schooling white bass and hybrids while waiting for jug line action. Richland Chambers lake produces abundant crappie (both black and white) and may be area's the most consistent fishery for these fishes.

FISHING TIPS AND TACTICS Largemouth bass anglers should look for fish congregated around underwater structure where they can be caught with jigging spoons and deep-diving crankbaits. Crappie anglers will have success with jigs or minnows near bridge crossings and in the abundant timber in the upper Richland and Chambers creek arms. Catfishes are everywhere; cut bait, stink bait, chicken livers, and worms are all productive. White bass and hybrid stripers are active from the 287 bridge to the dam. Use a graph recorder to find schools of shad or follow the birds to find schooling activity. Heavy jigs or slabs work well when fish are deep.

Fairfield Lake - Activities include camping, backpacking, hiking, nature study, bird watching, boating on this 2400-acre lake, water skiing, jet skiing (races hosted the first weekend in May), fishing, and lake swimming in a large, buoyed, sandy area.

Fort Parker - Fort Parker offers camping, picnicking, swimming in an unsupervised swimming area, fishing, bird watching, hiking, biking, canoeing, nature study, baseball/softball, and paddle boating. The canoe trip from Confederate Reunion Grounds to Fort Parker is a 3-mile trip on the Navasota River. Canoes will be shuttled to the Confederate Reunion Grounds at 10:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays only. Canoes can be reserved for this trip by calling 254-562-5751. Canoe rental for the trip is a 4 hour minimum rental. All other times are first come first served.

Purtis Creek - Activities include camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, and hiking. The park rents paddle boats and canoes.

A 44,752-acre reservoir impounding waters of Chambers and Richland Creeks for Tarrant County (Fort Worth) water supply and outdoor recreation. Current visitors will find public boat ramps, a marina, and a lakeside campground. They will also find some of the finest lake property in the state of Texas. Richland Chambers Reservoir, impounded in 1989, boasts 330 miles of shoreline.
