The greater Clear Lake area (known as the "Bay Area") is situated on the West shoreline of Galveston Bay in Texas and is the third largest boating basin in the United States with the largest concentration of recreational boats in Texas. Because of the proximity to Houston and neighboring Johnson Space Center the area enjoys a robust employment environment and strong economy. Tourism and recreation are the focus in communities along the shores of Clear Lake, with a wide array of parks, marinas and supporting businesses to choose from. The Kemah Boardwalk is located where the Clear Creek Channel opens into Galveston Bay, and is a complete vacation destination with hotels, restaurants and amusement rides. There are a number of additional lodging choices around the lake, including South Shore Harbor Resort and Conference Center and the Hilton Houston/NASA.
Clear Lake is a 2000 acre relatively shallow lake and it's level is affected by the tides, so the water depth is variable. Clear Lake is "brackish", a combination of freshwater from Clear Creek and salt water flowing in from Galveston Bay, which is a haven for sailors. Numerous holiday events and boat parades are scheduled throughout the year including Christmas, Fourth of July, Blessing of the Fleet and Mardis Gras. The Armand Bayou Nature Center is one of the largest urban wilderness preserves in the nation and features a boardwalk, nature trails and tours. Dolphins can regularly be seen frolicking in the lake as well as Galveston Bay. With it's mild coastal climate, the Clear Lake area is a year-round recreational destination.
Clear Lake boasts a robust real estate market, as available properties tend to move quickly. A large portion of the area is served by the Clear Creek ISD, which is highly rated. There are a wide variety of price points and amenity levels along the lakeshore, so there's something for everyone.
