About Lake Wildwood:
Lake Wildwood is a private, gated, recreational lake community of approximately 1433 acres including a 218 acre all sports lake, a 14 acre (electric motors only) fishing lake, two beaches, swimming pool, member campground, tennis courts, basketball court, 3600 sq ft lodge, pavilions, picnic areas, hiking areas, playgrounds, and association activities approximately 1 1/2 hrs from southwest Chicago suburbs. The Association dues are $800/year and all members pay the same dues. There are about 470 homes of which approximately 65% are seasonal/week end residents. A great weekend getaway in winter or summer, yet close enough for a day trip, or if you fall in love with the quiet, a great year round residence in close proximity to the city.
Local topography consists of old growth hardwood forest, rolling hills, beautiful valleys, scenic ravines, and meadow land. The area, which historically was left as untouched timber, abounds with wildlife. Deer, fox, raccoon, coyote, turkey, hawks, pheasant, owls, geese, ducks, osprey, and great blue heron are all local inhabitants. Several rare birds have been spotted and wildflowers and mushrooms are abundant.
Lake Wildwood is approximately 60 feet deep at its deepest part with approximately 8 miles of shoreline. Owners and their guests enjoy fishing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, and all types of water sports. Numerous coves provide no wake areas for fishermen or for a break from the action. For a quieter experience, Lake Tanglewood offers peaceful canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Our natural resources committee along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources works diligently on our yearly stocking program for both lakes to provide us with great fish stories. Most winters provide a nice ice fishing season as well.
The Lake Wildwood recreation committee plans seasonal festivities such as Easter egg hunt and visit from the Easter Bunny, Spring dance, May Fest, youth and teen swim parties, fishing derby in June, 4th of July fireworks and dance, August corn boil and fish fry, fall festival in September, family Halloween celebration, family Christmas party, New Years Eve party, and numerous potlucks and social gatherings throughout the year.
In addition, central Illinois tradition specializes in small town celebrations all summer and fall. Spoon River Fest, Peoria waterfront celebration, Henry's ice cream socials, Marshall/Putnam fair, Henry 4th of July carnival and fireworks, Lacon Old Settler's Days, Toluca Labor Day parade, carnival, and celebration, and annual Burgoo Festival in Utica, to name a few. Also, it is always lovely to spend a beautiful fall day enjoying the activities at Tanner's Orchard at Route 17 and 40. Within a 30 minute drive are Starved Rock and Mathiessen State Parks near the historic town of Utica, Illinois with local antique, candy, and specialty stores. Also worth mentioning for boat loving adventurers is the distance from Lake Wildwood to the Illinois River. Fifteen minutes down Route 17 is Lacon Marina where easy launching sets you free to travel down river south to Peoria - a perfect day long boat ride with plenty of marinas and beaches along the way. North, upriver, takes you to Henry, Hennepin, Peru, and finally the spectacular sandstone bluffs of Starved Rock in Utica, also a perfect day long journey. Golf courses within 10 - 15 minutes are Edgewood in McNabb, a public 18 hole course and Lacon Country Club, in Lacon, a private 18 hole course.
