River Acreage Off Market

YEAR ROUND ACCESS 97-ACRE MICHIGAN WOODED RECREATIONAL PROPERTY FOR SALE! This parcel is located in north-western Baraga County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The county enjoys over 70 miles of Lake Superior shoreline and is about 91 percent forested - a Sportspersons Paradise! The 97-Acre property has a great location on State Highway M38. The Village of Alston is to the west, and the Village of Baraga is only 6+ miles to the east. Just a mile+ to the east of the property is the mighty Sturgeon River so river fishing is very close by. The Sturgeon is 106-Mile long river beginning near Nestoria in southern Baraga County, and flows north-westerly through the Copper County State Forest, the Ottawa National State Forest, and then discharges into Portage Lake of Lake Superior. Parts of the river have been added to the National Wild and Scenic River System, and is classified as a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream. It is a cool water fishery known for Brook trout, Brown trout, and Steelhead trout. An historic fish stocking site is located where the river flows under the M-38 Bridge (a mile from the property), and just north and south of the bridge are sites where you can launch your canoes or kayaks. Three miles to the southwest is the Prickett Lake watershed, a key recreational area in the Ottawa National Forest, known for hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping. Conservation efforts in this watershed ensure access to the river, lake, and the North Country National Scenic Trail, the nation's longest scenic trail reaching from North Dakota to New York State. (About 50 miles of this hiking trail passes through Baraga County.) Prickett Dam, built in 1931, forms the large 810 acre retaining lake-reservoir. - Water that shoots out of the steel-and-cement wall, forms a powerful, artificial plunge of water. Water depths vary from only 5 feet deep to nearly 56 feet deep near the dam at the north end. Because much of the forest area wasn't cut before the flooding, the area is log-strewn, and has lots of stumps and stickups. This makes excellent fish structure for the crappie, sunfish, walleye, largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and rainbow trout that inhabit the lake. The impoundment is almost completely undeveloped with heavily forested slopes. There are several eagle nests along the lake on the towering pines along the cliffs surrounding the Southern end. You will have eagle, trumpeter swan, geese, and other bird watching opportunities available here. The property offered for sale has frontage on the main east-west Highway M-38, and Old M-35 runs along the western border of the parcel. It is heavily wooded. Trees common in the area include Balsam fir, Bigtooth aspen, Black cherry, Black spruce, Eastern hemlock, Eastern white pine, Jack pine, Northern white-cedar, Paper birch, Quaking aspen, Red maple, Red pine, Sugar maple, White spruce and Yellow birch. A nice beaver pond attracts lots of woodland wildlife to the property! If you are looking for a great spot for your next cabin or year round home contact us for information today. - MS# 1121809
