Great Sacandaga Lake Information

The Great Sacandaga Lake in northern New York State provides a picturesque setting for lake homes for sale. Tucked in the state’s prized Adirondack Preserve, the Great Sacandaga Lake is a true wilderness wonderland. Its abundance of outdoor recreation attracts enthusiasts all year long, from the big city day-tripper to the hard core ice angler.

The Great Sacandaga Lake invites anglers to fish its waters from January to December, and is happens to be one of the largest lakes in the Adirondack Park. The pristine waters are well stocked with varieties of trout, bass, walleye, pike, and even salmon. In fact, a 46-pound, 2-ounce northern pike was caught on this lake in 1940, setting the world record. May is the month of choice to hunt such monstrous northern pike, while the winter months attract their own unique breed of sport fishing. The Great Sacandaga Lake has a rich ice fishing tradition that draws thousands to its 42 square miles of frozen surface each year. Aficionados participate in numerous ice fishing competitions throughout the season, testing their luck against the cold of the lake and the cunning of the fish.

Spanning Fulton, Saratoga, and Hamilton Counties, the Great Sacandaga Lake’s 125 miles of stunning shoreline have something to offer year-round. Lake properties for sale are also always in demand as the fun really never stops on the lake. Spring and summer call for boating, swimming, and even white water rafting, while the winter months usher in skiing and snowboarding in the areas around the lake. As the seasons change, so do the night skies, giving star gazers a beautiful view. Your favorite constellations are easy to point out in this part of the world, where the city lights don't dilute the star light.

Golfing is another favorite pastime near lake-view cabins on Great Sacandaga Lake. The 9-hole public Sacandaga Golf Course has exceptionally great views of the lake. If you’re interested in living on a Great Sacandaga Lake golf course, check GolfHomes.com. for property listings and details.

Lakefront properties may be immersed in the natural appeal of the scenery, but they are never too far from the modern conveniences and luxuries of the city. Head to Mayfield for a fresh bite of Italian seafood at Lanzi’s on the Lake, where each meal is accompanied by a healthy side of scenery. Savor a sip of Old World varietals at Johnston’s Winery, in Galway, and let the smooth flavor of tradition and quality set the mood.

The Great Sacandaga Lake embodies year-round revelry. Bask on its beaches in the summer and sled through its wilds in the winter. The lake is for your taking any time you’re ready.

Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, there is a large, crystal clear body of water known as the "Great Sacandaga Lake". Unspoiled, unpopulated and unknown to most, this majestic lake (29 miles long with 125 miles of shoreline) is one of the few remaining "natural wonders" of New York State. Protected by the Adirondack Park Agency and the Hudson River Black River Regulating District Authority, The Great Sacandaga Lake has kept its natural beauty a secret from the "advances" of technology and commercialism. The area offers boating and water sports, snowmobiling and winter sports. The nearby Adirondack Mountains provide hiking and camping opportunities. Edinburg is within 35 minutes of Saratoga Springs, 45 minutes of Lake George and 1 hour from Albany.
