From watersports to fishing there’s something for everyone at Gull Lake. Unlike many other Alberta lakes that are decreasing in size and depth year by year, Gull Lake is protected and water diverted from the Blindman River seasonally to ensure stable water levels. At 80 square kilometres and over 30 feet deep, Gull Lake welcomes any and all types of boats, from canoe to sailboat. Rich with pike, pickerel, whitefish and perch, Gull Lake is a favoured Alberta hotspot for sport fishing.
Because it is situated between the cities of Edmonton and Calgary, Gull Lake is easily accessible to large numbers of people. Its clear water and sandy beaches contribute to its popularity. Reaching just over 80 square kilometres, it is home to a variety of fish and migrating and nesting waterfowl. Surrounded by Aspen Parkland and Boreal mix-wood forests and eco-regions, the forests of trembling aspen, white spruce, poplar balsam, willow and the rolling grasslands create a gentle landscape.
The communities surrounding Gull Lake provide a nearly endless supply of recreational activities throughout every season. Hiking, picnicking, playgrounds, swimming, trail rides and golf are all popular in the warmer months while ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and tobogganing are just a few of the activities available when the snow flies.
Gull Lake and its surrounding communities and towns are rich with amenities, including golf courses, farmers markets, shopping, theatres, restaurants and sidewalk cafes. Small town, family-run stores and shops are peppered throughout the area while larger brand-name retailers can be found a mere half hour away in the city of Red Deer.
