Lake Texoma Information

Set your sights on Lake Texoma , in northeast Texas, if you’re interested in lake homes for sale. Lake Texoma’s popularity almost overshadows its impressive acreage, as around six million people flock to the 89,000-acre lake each year. The extravagant size of the lake allows for a seemingly endless array of recreation opportunities. The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is only an hour’s drive south of the lake, ensuring that you don’t have to go far for either a healthy dose of nature or a day of big city indulgence.

Lake Texoma was designed with accessibility in mind, and it offers some of the finest boating, camping, and fishing accommodations in the country. Twelve marinas are positioned around the lake for your convenience, since having easy access to the water comes in handy when you have bass on the brain! The lake is only one of seven in the country to host schools of naturally-reproducing striped bass. The striped bass population is so healthy, in fact, that the fish average 12–20 pounds. In all, Lake Texoma is home to over seventy species of fish, keeping anglers of all skill levels on their toes. You might catch the next record-breaking blue catfish—the last one weighed in at a whopping 121.5 pounds!

Even if you’re not on the hunt for fish, twelve marinas give you the chance to experience Lake Texoma from the water. Launch your power boat, sail boat, or jet ski and make some waves! Other popular water sports on the lake include wind surfing and water skiing; you won’t run out of room on this large lake, so feel free to stretch your legs and pick up some speed.

Lake properties for sale are also in close proximity to 26 resorts and numerous restaurants and cafes that dot the shoreline. Similarly, Lake Texoma is home to 56 parks, hundreds of campgrounds, and two wildlife refuges. And as if that weren’t impressive enough, the lake is also surrounded by several noteworthy golf courses. Area public courses include Chicasaw Pointe, Gainesville, Lakeview, Grayson, and Buncombe Creek. If you’re interested in living on a Lake Texoma golf course, visit GolfHomes.com for property details and listings.

In addition to being so close to the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area, Lake Texoma lies along the Texas/Oklahoma border. The counties of Bryan, Love, Johnston, and Marshall encircle the lake on the Oklahoma side, while Grayson and Cooke counties line the Texas side. As such, lakefront properties are near any number of community events and attractions. Lake Texoma hosts one event in particular that marries everyone’s love of the water with a communal sense of responsibility: the annual Lakefest Regatta is the largest such regatta in the nation and raises funds for vital children’s charities in the region.

Lake Texoma is one of the largest lakes in the United States, located on the border between Texas and Oklahoma, about 75 miles north of Dallas. It was created by the construction of the Denison Dam on the Red River and spans more than 89,000 acres with about 580 miles of shoreline. The lake offers a range of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, swimming, camping, and hiking. Over 20 miles from H 377 bridge to Dension Dam with beautiful islands scattered along the way, great for camping gunk-holing. The lake area includes two wildlife refuges, two state parks, fifty four U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-managed parks, twenty-six resorts, hundreds of campgrounds and a variety of excellent golf courses. Power boating, power sailing, personal watercraft, water skiers and wind surfers all consider the lake an excellent place to have fun.
