Lake Wawasee Information

If you’re interested in lake homes for sale in Indiana, take a look at Lake Wawasee. Lake Wawasee is conveniently located near Syracuse, Indiana, and has long been a popular vacation destination for the region. City dwellers in such urban hubs as Chicago and Indianapolis search out the calm, peaceful surroundings of Lake Wawasee to satisfy their need to slow down the clock and revel in a bounty of outdoor recreation.

Lake Wawasee has served generations of lake goers with its unspoiled landscapes. As the largest natural lake in the state, Lake Wawasee’s pristine waters sprawl across 3,410 acres of open space. Even when the lake is still, there’s plenty of action going on just below the surface. Twenty-eight species of fish have been identified in the lake, attracting anglers of all skill levels with the promise of a rewarding hunt. You’re sure to come across bluegill, largemouth bass, northern pike, and yellow bullhead, and you may also see black crappie, yellow perch, and redear sunfish. You can even enter the lake’s several fishing tournaments hosted throughout the year.

The deep valley and hills that surround Lake Wawasee were chiseled out by glaciers thousands of years ago. Today, the complex geography of the area supports fantastic recreation both on and off the lake. Because the lake is so popular and beloved by the communities it serves, several agencies work to ensure its integrity is never compromised. Such efforts keep the scenery spectacular and the accommodations supreme. Lake properties for sale are conveniently situated near numerous public boat ramps and marinas, which is very helpful for when it comes time to launch your personal or rented watercraft. Kick your speedboat, sailboat, or jet ski into top gear, as daytime speed limits are not enforced on the water. And feel free to stay idle awhile on “The Sandbar,” where you can drop anchor and splash around in 3–4 foot depths.

Spending a fun-filled day on the lake works up quite an appetite! Pull your boat up to either of Lake Wawasee’s two full-service restaurants—the Channel Marker and the Frog Tavern—to cool off and refuel. Lake front properties are only minutes away from other favorite outdoor pastimes, as well. Several local golf courses like Wawasee, South Shore, and Maxwelton, all in Syracuse, invite you to test your swing and take in the views. If you’d like to live on a Lake Wawasee area golf course, visit GolfHomes.com for details.
