Lake Sinclair Information

If you are looking for lake homes for sale in Georgia, set your sights on Lake Sinclair. One of the most popular boating areas in the state, Lake Sinclair also stands apart for hosting several fishing tournaments throughout the year. With over 400 miles of shoreline, Lake Sinclair is celebrated for offering top-notch camping and boating accommodations, along with year-round fishing.

Spreading into Baldwin, Putman, and Handcock Counties, Lake Sinclair has 15,330 acres of water surface fed by numerous rivers and creeks, which adds up to prime fishing territory. Crappie, largemouth and hybrid bass, and multiple types of catfish are plentiful in Lake Sinclair. Many anglers prefer the fishing come fall and winter. The lake attracts around 5,000 fishermen in tournaments each year. If tailrace fishing is your fancy, head toward the dam near Milledgeville.

The waters of Lake Sinclair are populated by so much more than fishermen. The lake is proud to host water enthusiasts of all persuasions, and numerous points of access for water recreation. Two public boat ramps are always in use, in addition to several marinas and boat storage areas. Private lake access is available from lakefront homes. Day-use recreation areas like the Rocky Creek Park and Oconee Springs Park include intimate beaches, boat ramps, picnic tables, and grills. Lake home owners (lake home renters) appreciate having access to their watercraft any time they like.

In addition to all the good times had on the water, enjoy a day at any of Lake Sinclair’s area golf courses. Courses like Jonesco Golf Course, Little Fishing Creek, and Port Armor welcome lake and local residents, while others are exclusive to members. The Milledgeville Country Club is situated against Lake Sinclair and features several notable amenities. With two tennis courts, a swimming pool, a sundeck, and banquet facilities, this is one club you’ll want to join. If you are considering living on any of these golf courses, visit GolfHomes.com to see property listing details.

The only way you may drag the kids out of the water is to bribe them with a trip to family-friendly Sylvia’s, which offers excellent fare. Puebla’s Mexican Restaurant keeps dinner festive, while the Blackbridge Hall Gallery celebrates the vibrancy of art.

Lake Sinclair is a Georgia Power lake used to provide hydroelectric power. It covers 15,330 acres with over 400 miles of shoreline with a maximum depth at the dam of 90 feet. The Oconee River runs thru it and it is fed by five smaller creeks.

There are nine marinas and four restaurants on the lake. Boat rentals and campgrounds are available at local marinas. The lake level remains fairly constant all year round. It will fluctuate approx. one to two feet each day due to the fact that Georgia Power pumps water from Sinclair into Lake Oconee to run the power generators at the Oconee Dam. Georgia Power also has a steam power plant on Lake Sinclair. This is great for winter fishing as the water temps at the plant will remain warm.

The lake is situated in three counties, Baldwin, Putnam and Hancock. There is still some undeveloped land on the lake and lots of developed property.

Places to swim range from a supervised beach at the Forest service site to the seclusion of a sand beach on an island or in an uninhabited cove. The water is great throughout the lake but remember to observe water safety rules, especially when swimming in unsupervised areas. Taking in the beauty of the natural world is another pleasure on Lake Sinclair. Water fowl are varied and numerous. The quiet observer will see many birds and shore creatures, especially at dawn and dusk when they come down to the water's edge. The forests surrounding the lake offer other surprises. The dogwoods and azaleas in the spring and the glowing colors of fall foliage signal the beauty of changing seasons in Central Georgia.
