Lake Sinclair is a Georgia Power lake used to provide hydroelectric power. It covers 15,330 acres with over 400 miles of shoreline with a maximum depth at the dam of 90 feet. The Oconee River runs thru it and it is fed by five smaller creeks.
There are nine marinas and four restaurants on the lake. Boat rentals and campgrounds are available at local marinas. The lake level remains fairly constant all year round. It will fluctuate approx. one to two feet each day due to the fact that Georgia Power pumps water from Sinclair into Lake Oconee to run the power generators at the Oconee Dam. Georgia Power also has a steam power plant on Lake Sinclair. This is great for winter fishing as the water temps at the plant will remain warm.
The lake is situated in three counties, Baldwin, Putnam and Hancock. There is still some undeveloped land on the lake and lots of developed property.

Places to swim range from a supervised beach at the Forest service site to the seclusion of a sand beach on an island or in an uninhabited cove. The water is great throughout the lake but remember to observe water safety rules, especially when swimming in unsupervised areas. Taking in the beauty of the natural world is another pleasure on Lake Sinclair. Water fowl are varied and numerous. The quiet observer will see many birds and shore creatures, especially at dawn and dusk when they come down to the water's edge. The forests surrounding the lake offer other surprises. The dogwoods and azaleas in the spring and the glowing colors of fall foliage signal the beauty of changing seasons in Central Georgia.
