Ute Lake, located 3 miles west of Logan and 25 miles northeast of Tucumcari, is the second largest lake in New Mexico and provides boating and water sports, including water skiing, knee boarding, jet skiing, wind surfing, parasailing, warm water fishing, and hunting. Numerous species of protected game are also found in the area. Ute Lake is one of the longest lakes in the state at nearly 13 miles, and also is narrow with its width never exceeding one mile across.

Lake surface is 8,200 acres. Ute Lake is the only major reservoir in New Mexico built entirely with state funds.
