The Arbuckle Mountains, while not the largest mountain range in the state of Oklahoma, are generally acknowledged as being some of the oldest on earth. The geological uplift that created the Arbuckles occurred so long ago that erosion has weathered the mountains down from the height of the Himalayas to the size of just tall hills today. The region covers a relatively small area of southern Oklahoma, but includes some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. From the 77 feet high waterfalls at Turner Falls Park to the cool, shady waters of the springs in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, the visual impact is there, no matter the season.
