Lake Huron - Sanilac County Information

Lake Huron and Sanilac County Have it All If you’re familiar with the “Michigan Mitten,” the easiest way to describe the location of Sanilac County is to say that it is on the outside (east side) of the Thumb that juts into Lake Huron. According to local legend, the county is named after a Wyandotte Indian Chief named Sanilac. A Lake Huron lake house in Sanilac County, at the south end of the lake, puts you in some of the most beautiful countryside of Michigan and within easy reach of many sources of relaxation and fun, whether you are on a family vacation or a romantic getaway. A Truly Great Lake Whether you bring your family, or just your significant other, you will love living in a lake house, especially on situated on Lake Huron. This member of the Great Lakes family certainly earns the moniker with a surface area of 23,000 square miles. It is the second largest of the Great Lakes, and the fifth largest freshwater lake on Earth. With such a magnificent and gigantic lake to play on, and gorgeous views of the lake from you lake house, this relaxing setting is sure to agree with every member of your party. Fun for Everyone There is a lot to see and do around your Lake Huron lake house that will keep the entire family engaged. If you’re a family that enjoys a round of golf, you can choose between the two 18-hole courses at the Lakeview Hills Golf Resort in Lexington. The South Course is historic, built in 1927, but it still challenges the short game of even the best golfers. The newer North Course has four sets of tees so that you can customize the play to your skill level. For young golfers not yet ready for the real deal, some put-put golf at Mystic Mountain Adventure Golf might be just the thing. Lexington is also home to Six Gun Territory, an Old West town with a host of ole-timey kid-friendly activities. You can go on a pony ride or hayride, have a photo taken in historic costumes, and even pan for “gold” that can be traded in at the General Store for prizes. To the west, in Brown City, the Summer Wind Farms Sanctuary lets you walk on the wild side. This non-profit exotic animal rescue lets you see a variety of animals up close, from tigers to alligators to bears, and much more! Each animal has an amazing story of how it came to be a part of the sanctuary, and entry fees go toward the care of the animals. Wine and Dine If you are looking to Lake Huron to provide a romantic setting, Sanilac County has that, too. A tour of local wineries will set the mood nicely. Blue Water Winery, in Carsonville, offers tours of the vineyard and tastings of the wines and microbrews (the chardonnay is a visitor favorite), along with live music several evenings a week. 3 North Vines, in Croswell, hosts music and art shows, and they serve the best sangria. For live entertainment, check the events schedule for the Lexington Village Theater. They host musicians, comedians, and a variety of other acts; recent headliners include Lone Star, Taylor Hicks, and The Glenn Miller Orchestra. You can finish off your evening with dinner at Uri’s Landing in Port Sanilac. This chef-driven American fusion restaurant focuses on farm-to-table dining, featuring ingredients from local farms and their own homestead farm’s poultry, eggs, and produce. Rent a Lake Huron lake house for your next trip. Whether you are planning an unforgettable family vacation or a dreamy retreat with someone special, you’ll love Sanilac County, Michigan.
