Fishing Information

Predominant Fish Species:
Largemouth bass, Catfish, Bluegill and redear sunfish
The largemouth bass population at Gilmer Reservoir can be described as one of moderate numbers with good condition and growth characteristics. Relative abundance of legal-size bass is low, but good numbers of fish are available for catch and release. Channel catfish are present and fishing opportunities are good. Growth of channel cats is excellent and good numbers are available for harvest. Although the relative abundance of crappie species is good, very few legal-size fish are available. The fishery should improve over the next several years as crappie grow to legal size. Several species of sunfish are present, including bluegill, redear sunfish, and warmouth. Bluegill dominates with good numbers of fish over 6 inches available for harvest.
