New Melones Lake Information

Escape to California's Central Sierra Gold Country! Magnificent scenery, miles of secluded shoreline, fantastic boating and fishing, and clean, clear water make New Melones Lake the perfect place for a luxury houseboat vacation.

Beautiful New Melones Lake is the fourth largest man-made lake in California, behind Oroville, Shasta, and Trinity. Has 12,500 surface acres of water (at full capacity), and 100 miles of shoreline. The lake is framed by topography ranging from the rugged Stanislaus River Canyon cliffs to oak-studded golden Sierra foothills.

Located in Calaveras County in Angels Camp (home of the Celebrated Jumping Frog Jubilee), New Melones Lake was formed with the completion of a 625-foot high dam in 1979. New Melones surpassed in size the Old Melones reservoir that had been formed in 1926. By 1982, the lake was filled and on its way to becoming the wonderful recreational spot that it is today.
