Lake Bruin is a premier fishing lake. It is 13 miles long and is extremely deep. Jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding and even a few sail boats are common on Lake Bruin. Most people with camps have a pontoon boat and later in the afternoons you can see them begin to travel up and down the lake loaded with people laughing and having a good time! The 4th of July is especially fun at Lake Bruin. Local families put on a huge fireworks display and everyone gathers in the center of the lake to watch from their boats. Netterville Landing the lake's only marina plays host to an annual airshow, "Thunder on Bruin", performed by the Aeroshell Aerobatic team in their T-6 World War II planes. Bass tournaments are held on Lake Bruin almost every weekend during spring and summer months. There are covenants on most properties on the lake. Boat docks/piers are at almost every camp. Monroe, La. is approx. 1hr. 20 minutes from Lake Bruin. Natchez is an hour away and Vicksburg is an hour away. There is a small parish airstrip located at Lake Bruin which allows small planes to land. There is a Country Club with tennis courts and a 9 hole golf course. Although Lake Bruin is a separate community, the main town is St. Joseph, La. which does have a very nice well stocked grocery store. There are several restaurants in the area for those who want a night out of the kitchen, including a marina with a grill and live entertainment throughout the summer. The marina is a full service fueling station for boats, with cabin and pontoon & jet ski rentals.
Lake Bruin is in Louisiana in a small town called St. Joseph, La. with a nice residential community surrounding the horseshoe shaped lake. Lake Bruin is a premier recreational lake where bass fishing tournaments are held on a regular basis. Most of the homes have their own boat docks with boathouses and boatlifts to keep jetskis, fishing boats and ski boats. Occasionally you will even see a sailboat or a house boat. Swimming in Lake Bruin along with skiing, jetskiing and wakeboarding is a very common site since the water is very clean. The water level is controlled by a gated system, however, when the Mississippi River is at flood stage and there is a lot of rain in a short period of time, the water level in Lake Bruin will rise quite a bit. There is a Country Club on the lake with tennis courts, swimming pool and a 9 hole golf course. Lake Bruin is a very deep oxbow lake. Vicksburg, Mississippi is an hour away, Natchez, Mississippi is an hour away, Winnsboro, La. is 35 minutes away and Monroe, La. is approx. 1 hr. 20 min. away. There is a small airstrip suitable for small planes to land right there at the lake area. Since Tensas Parish is predominantly a farming community, the crop dusters will also land at that airstrip. Certain residential areas on the lake have covenants, some don't, but it is a very nice area with a wide range of prices on the homes.
Lake Bruin, Lake St. John and Lake Concordia are deep water lakes created by the Mississippi River but not longer connected to the River, and commonly known as Oxbow lakes. Yucatan Lake is still connected to the Mississippi River, great fishing and duck hunting lake.
